Wally McLean came to Norwich University in the fall of 1962 from Middleboro, MA. He played freshman football and then became a three-year starter on the varsity squad, playing both offense and defense. He was named All-State as a junior and senior and was elected Co-Captain with Butch Lovering in 1965 under Coach Joe Sabol. McLean won the Senior Athletic Award with high academic honors. In his senior year, he was named to the all-opponent team by both Bates College and St. Lawrence University.
Upon graduation, McLean played some pro football in Canada. After football, he went to Howard Union High School here in Vermont and served as a biology and science teacher. He earned his masters degree from the University of Michigan.
McLean has worked for the State of Vermont for 36 years and currently serves as the Director of Water Quality. He and his wife, Angela, make their home here in Northfield. The couple has two children and four grandchildren.
