Robert Goodman is one of two Distinguished Letter Winners in the Class of 2021. He was a four-year member of the Norwich University wrestling program, serving as a co-captain in back-to-back years during his junior and season seasons. He helped lead the Cadets to winning records in dual meets each of the seasons he served as captain.
Goodman tied for the most pinfalls on the team as a sophomore and earned the Coaches Award as a senior. He placed third at the New England Championships as a junior and fifth as senior to earn All-New England honors twice.
Goodman was undefeated in individual meets as a senior with a 9-0 record. He also finished his career with a 32-8 overall record.
Goodman was involved with Army ROTC and a member of the Corps of Cadets. He worked for the Guidon campus newspaper, campus radio station, and at a work study job four years at Norwich.
After graduation, Goodman served five years as an active-duty US Army Air Defense Artillery officer, achieving the rank of captain. Goodman’s civilian career includes numerous leadership and executive roles in the healthcare industry with companies including Pfizer, Thermo Fisher, Cardiocore, BioTelemetry and Philips.
“I could not be prouder about being a graduate of Norwich and I’m incredibly honored to be selected to be in the Athletic Hall of Fame,” Goodman said. “Whether during athletic competition, military training, or just goofing around in the dorms I couldn’t have found a more natural habitat than all that Norwich offers. The friends I made at Norwich are still a very big part of who I am and I am beyond blessed to have them in my life.
“The professors, coaches, and administrators were all so incredibly dedicated to our development and I am so happy to know that many are still here decades later.”
Goodman has been married to his wife, Terry, since 1992. They have two daughters; Abigail and Kendall, and split time living between Connecticut and Florida.
