Bob Johnson distinguished himself in many ways during his undergraduate career at Norwich. As a three-sport standout in football, hockey, and track he made a name for himself as one of the best athletes on campus.
Bob helped the football team beat the University of Vermont in both his sophomore and junior year. The Cadets posted a winning record over those two seasons. In the spring, Bob captained the track team and excelled in the shot put.
Meanwhile, Bob was also making a name for himself outside the athletic arena. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets and was an interfraternity leader for Lambda Chi Alpha, one of six Norwich fraternities at the time.
Hard feelings among many Greeks and alumni characterized Bob's senior year after the school's trustees made it clear that fraternities at Norwich would be dissolved following graduation. Bob clashed with the administration over its plan and soon found himself off the "Hill" a few weeks before the rest of his class, just shy of graduation.
Bob went on with his life, pursuing a career in professional football for two-plus years. He later decided to move on to business, beginning as the southern sales manager for a producer of ventilation systems. By 1973, Bob has become president and part-owner of his own engineering firm. A year later, he founded the firm he still runs today  - JHK Systems Inc.
It was during Lorin Hart's presidency that Bob began to come back to Norwich. While he and the school had had their differences, he knew he had learned a lot of the values. In 1978, Bob made a donation to Norwich in his mother's name. Eventually he spoke to Dr. Hart and soon he was promoting Norwich to those in the best position to help.
In 1980, Bob joined the Board of Fellows, eventually serving as vice char. He has long been a member of the Partridge Society and was its president. In 1983, Bob received the Distinguished Alumnus Award. He received his formal degree in engineering at commencement in 1995. Bob joined the University's Board of trustees last year, where hew serves on the development and facilities planning committees.
Bob and his wife, Pep have six children; Laura, Cindy, Kimberly, Jennifer, Bill and Judy.
