The 2009-10 men's hockey team captured the program's third NCAA Division III National Championship with a 2-1 double-overtime win over St. Norbert College in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Pier-Olivier Cotnoir '13 scored the game-winning goal in the 100th minute of the game to clinch the national championship and cap off an incredible storybook ending to the program's 100-year anniversary season.
The Cadets posted a 26-1-4 record and won the ECAC East Tournament title with a 4-1 victory over Babson at Kreitzberg Arena. Eric Tallent '10, Ryan Klingensmith '10 and Chad Anderson '11 earned All-American honors. Klingensmith set the Norwich single-season wins' record with a 24-1-3 record in goal en route to earning ECAC East Goalie of the Year honors.
Freshman Blake Forkey '13 and Anderson tied for the team lead with 37 points each. Freshman Kyle Thomas '13 led the team with 23 goals and was named the ECAC East Rookie of the Year.
Forkey, Tallent, Anderson and Klingensmith all earned ECAC East First Team All-Conference honors. Greg Eskedjian '11 (Second Team), Thomas (Honorabel Mention and All-Rookie), and Forkey (All-Rookie) rounded out the ECAC East postseason award winners.
That same year, head coach Mike McShane was named the ECAC East Coach of the Year for the third year in a row. He also won his fourth Ed Jeremiah National Division II-III Coach of the Year award. McShane was assisted by coaches Steve Mattson and Cory Gustafson.
Norwich won its 12th straight ECAC East regular season title with a 16-1-2 conference record.
The Cadets' NCAA Tournament run featured a dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 overtime win over Elmira at home in Kreitzberg Arena. Norwich then defeated Lake Champlain-rival Plattsburgh State, 3-2, in the national semifinals before downing St. Norbert in the championship.
