Robert Carroll is one of two Distinguished Letterwinners in this year’s class. He was a two-sport athlete in baseball and football. Carroll was named the team Rookie of the Year as a freshman on the baseball team and helped lead the Cadets to 23 wins in his first two years on the squad.
Carroll is a member of the Board of Fellows, Fins and Feathers Board of Directors, and Brian Bill ’01 Memorial Golf Tournament Committee.
Carroll was active in the Norwich community during his time as a student, serving as a radio host and DJ on WNUB-FM, as well as being the voice of Norwich hockey. He was a writer for the Guidon and was on the ring committee.
Paul Booth, Carroll’s baseball coach at Norwich, said, “Bobby was a terrific two-sport athlete, he was a really tremendous football player and was a significant piece of our baseball program back in those days. Bobby was a catcher. He was a really, really good defender behind the plate and he came up with a timely hit here and there. He was an asset obviously to the school, both on the football field and on the baseball diamond and he was an absolute pleasure to coach. I can’t think of a better guy to be selected from that era to represent both baseball and football and I was glad to coach him for those couple of years.”
Carroll is now the managing director of Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative asset manager. Carroll is married to Samantha Robinson Carroll, and together they have two sons; Jack and Justin. Carroll has coached his kid’s baseball, hockey, and football teams.
