Hall of Fame
Bill Tanner lettered four years in football and three years in basketball during his tenure at Norwich. He was a starting defensive end for the football team under Coach Joe Sabol for three years, and was a two-year starting guard for the basketball team.
Tanner attained the grade of Major and Company Commander in the Corps of Cadets and won the Garrity Award for Athletics, Academics and Leadership.
As an undergraduate Tanner spent four years in the PE Majors club, three in the varsity club, and was named to the "Who's Who" of Norwich four times. He also served in the honor infantry platoon.
Tanner also served as president of the Skulls and Swords and was tabbed in the "Who's Who in American College and Universities" his junior and senior year, making dean's list all four semesters.
Tanner is a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG) who was commissioned in the U.S. Army in 1975 and served 25 distinguished years, as an Infantry Officer and Army Aviator (Ranger, Airborne, & Special Forces Qualified).
Tanner served on the Board of Directors, Norwich University Alumni Association, for 10 years. A stout supporter of Norwich athletics he also served as president of the Norwich University Athletic Association and vice president of the Norwich University Touchdown Club.
Tanner has served time as an analyst in both the military and private sectors, currently works for BAE Systems in Washington, D.C., as the Director of Business Development for Army Programs and Requirements in the Pentagon.
Tanner can be found at just about every NU football and hockey games both at home and on the road. He served as the color analyst for the broadcast of the football team's games.
Tanner currently resides in Graniteville, Vermont.
