Aucoin is one of the most decorated athletes in Norwich University history. As a four-year starter, he accumulated 240 points in 116 games, a program record. Each of those four years, Aucoin was named an All-American along with receiving the ECAC East Player of the Year twice in addition to receiving the Sid Watson Award (Division III National Player of the Year) in his senior year. With Aucoin leading the charge, the Cadets made two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. His sophomore season concluded with a third place finish, which was followed by the school's first National Championship in 2000.Â
"It's an honor to be inducted into the Norwich Athletics Hall of Fame. I had a great four-year experience playing hockey at Norwich," Aucoin said. "Winning the National Championship in 2000, the first one in school history, was really special particularly when we were so close the year before. It's the first championship that I ever won in hockey. We had a great group of guys that today are still really close friends."Â
Aucoin's excellent career on the ice continued after Norwich. Soon after graduating in 2001, he broke into the AHL with his hometown Lowell Lock Monsters. The following season, he would lead the Providence Bruins in scoring en route to a berth in the Eastern Conference Final. Two years later, he was promoted to the NHL by the Carolina Hurricanes where he played parts of three seasons.
Aucoin's next stop was the Washington Capitals organization, where he spent four years between DC and their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears. With the Capitals, he totaled 22 points in 49 games in that span. In Hershey, Aucoin helped lead the Bears to back-to-back Calder Cup victories in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, he was the AHL's regular season and postseason scoring champion and was named AHL MVP. His North American hockey career concluded in 2014 playing parts of nine seasons in the NHL (145 GP 17 G 32 A 49 Pts). In the AHL, his 857 career points are seventh all-time and is one of five players in league history with more than 600 assists. In those 13 seasons, he played in a record-tying six All-Star Classics on top of being named a first or second team All-Star three times each. In 2022, Aucoin was voted into the AHL Hall of Fame. Â
