With her induction into the Norwich Athletic Hall of Fame, Kay Gregoire becomes the first and inly person from the class of 1987 inducted in their first year of eligibility.
Kay was one of the first outstanding female student-athletes during her undergraduate career at Norwich. She earned a total of nine varsity letters in four different sports: field hockey, soccer, basketball, and outdoor track.
Kay lettered for the field hockey team as a link and halfback during the program's final two years in 1983 and 1984. She switched to soccer with that program's introduction in 1985 and earned two letters in that sport. Kay quickly became one of the team's leading scorers and tied for the team lead in goals as a senior.
Kay really left her mark on the basketball court. As a four-year letterwinner, she did a little bit of everything as the team's most versatile player. Kay led the basketball team through four of the best years in the program's history helping Norwich compile a 60-28 record in that time. She served as team co-captain for three seasons and twice was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Kay finished her career in 1987 as the schools all-time scoring leader with 1,151 points.
In the spring of her senior year, Kay spent her one and only season as a member of the outdoor track team. She capped her collegiate athletic career by winning the javelin event at the Vermont State Meet.
Kay graduated from Norwich in 1987 with a degree in recreation leadership. She has remained active in athletics through coaching both junior high field hockey and basketball in the Barre-Montpelier schools. Kay now works at a local hospital as a patient services representative.
Kay is joined here tonight by her parents, Leonel and Madelin Gregoire.
