Hale H. Lait competed in hockey and football at Norwich and is most celebrated for his gridiron exploits. As a two-way guard he was the leading tackler in a career that saw him named All-Vermont (1947-49), All-New England (1948-49), and little All-America (1949). He served as team co-captain his last two years and assisted at spring practice in 1950. Hale was the 1950 recipient of NU's Outstanding Athlete Award.Â
While at NU, Hale was a member of the Varsity Club, the NU Veterans Association, and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers..Â
Hale has had a distinguished military career in the Nay, receiving commendations for duty in Alaska and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as well as the Philippine Independence Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He has served for twenty-eight years in the USNR, attaining the rank of captain. Noteworthy among his honors was the Alaskan commendation while a member of staff, Commander Alaskan Sea Frontier for meritorious service in connection with recovery and restoration activities subsequent to the earthquake and seismic wave of 1964.
His professional career as an electrical engineer has carried him from Minneapolis to Kansas City, KS, to Chicago, where he currently is Regional Manager of ASEA Electric, Inc.
Hale has been extremely active in community life, serving in the Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City as well as on the Safety Council and chairing the Scholarship Committee of the American Legion post there. Presently, he is Director of the North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in Highland Park, IL, and President of its men's club. He is also Director/President of the Elms Swim and Tennis Club. He is a member of several professional socities as well as the Naval Reserve Association, the Retired Officers Association, the American Legion, and the Jewish War Veterans. Hale and his wife, Eileen, reside in Highland Park, IL.
