Hall of Fame
Trace Tancreti is one of the most accomplished track and field athletes in Norwich history. He was a two-year captain and won the New England high jump championship in 1984 as a freshman, setting a new Norwich record at 6-feet-9 inches.
He was a three-time All-New England honoree in high jump and earned All-American honors in 1986, when he placed in the top six in Nationals competition. Tancreti was also a member of the All-New England 4x400 and school record holder relay team.
Tancreti was part of a group of football players who worked to make track and field a varsity program, enjoying success almost immediately. In the team’s first year, Tancreti and his teammates finished eighth out of 24 teams in their first meet against stiff competition.
Tragedy struck when an accident claimed the lives of half of the track and field team, and Tancreti ran with vengeance and the memories of his deceased teammates. During his time at Norwich, Tancreti lived by a Yogi Berra quote that he still follows to this day.
Tancreti was a member of the Dean’s List and graduated Cum Laude before commissioning as an Army Officer.
“I want to truly thank Norwich University for helping foster my drive to succeed,” Tancreti said.
