Charlie came to Norwich on a scholarship from the estate of a sea captain named Wheelwright in his hometown of Newburyport, Massachusetts in the fall of 1959. He distinguished himself at Norwich as member of the rifle team, earning a bachelors' degree in economics and received a commission of 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army in 1963.
Charlie served a total of six years in the Army, principally in Armored Calvary rising to 1st Lieutenant.
For the next several years, he worked in the optical field until he purchased Merrimack Optical Company in 1974. As co-worker and working partner, he grew Merrimack and later Clarkdale, Inc. into vibrant operations. He would go on to form Canterbury Vision Centers, which has allowed him to enjoy a successful career as a salesman, business owner and entrepreneur.Â
Charlie's selfless dedication to Norwich sports family can be seen, whether it is at a football game, hockey game or anywhere Norwich Athletic Association and Blue Line Club boards and has become "King of the Email," providing his own special kind of reporting that is appreciated by all. Charlie and his wife Carol, have two daughters , Kim and Kristen.
