The late James H. Fullerton, a fullback on the football team,was a hockey goalie for four years. As captain, he led the skaterswith a goals-against average of 2.71. Jom served as hockey coach atNU in 1930-31, embarking on a 40-year teaching/coaching career(interrupted by service in World War II as a Cavalry officer) thatsaw him win 84 percent of his games as football, ice hockey, andcrew coach at the Northwood School. Jim became the head ice hockeycoach at Brown University (1955-1970), where he also taught in theEducation Department. Awarded the Spencer Penrose Trophy as U.S.Collegiate Coach of the Year in 1965, Jim was elected to the U.S.Collegiate Hall of Fame in 1971 and the Brown University Hall ofFame in 1974. He has served on the U.S. Olympic Hockey Committee,is past president of the American Hockey Coaches Association, andis a noted hockey author and consultant. He won numerous regionalhonors, coached several U.S. teams in international competition,and scouted for the New York Islanders.
