Hall of Fame
Randall E. Gaetz is among the greatest rugby players ever to play at Norwich and the first to be named to the Hall of Fame. In his four-year career, Randy received several team and regional honors. He was the NU Rugby Football Club's MVP in 1973 and was named All-New England in 1973 and 1974. The cadets were a combined 17-1 in his last two years. In 1974 he was one of just three collegians named to the Eastern Rugby Union Select Side, a team consisting of the best amateur players in the East.Â
Randy was active in the cross-country club and intramural athletics and played freshman basketball. He was also class secretary in his junior and senior years, a reporter for The Guidon, and a Dean's List student. After graduation, Randy spent three years in the United States Marine Corps, reaching the rank of first lieutenant while stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, AZ.Â
In 1978, Randy earned a master's in Human Resource Management at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA and began a career with the Michelin Tire Corp. He served as territorial representative in the Boston district. Promoted to district sales manager in 1980 (at 26, the youngest manager in company history), he oversaw operations in Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. He advanced to teach courses on salesmanship to Michelin employees and made several videos for company--wide use. Other managerial moves took Randy and his family to Charlotte, NC, and to Dallas, TX, where he is currently District Manager i Michelin's third largest U.S. market, responsible for $50 million in sales.Â
Randy joined the Masons while in Yuma and also has served as a YMCA youth basketball league coach. He and his wife, Terry, have three children: Matthew, Tracey, and Rebecca. A native of Worcester, MA, he resides with his family in Arlington, TX.Â
