A multi-year letterwinner in field hockey, basketball, and softball as an undergraduate at Norwich, Jennifer Leeds Smith was the schools first outstanding three-sport female athlete.Â
As a sophomore tri-captain of the hockey team in 1976, Jennifer participated in the first women's intercollegiate athletic contest ever played at Norwich. She captained the team for the next three seasons. The Cadets finished 9-3-2 in her senior year and Smith as an All-Northeast Region selection.Â
During the winter, Jenifer was a standout guard for the women's basketball team. She served as co-captain for three years and was named the team MVP in her sophomore and senior seasons. She was also the captain of the softball team for two years and hit over .300 as a senior to lead the team in hitting. Jennifer received the outstanding female athlete award in 1979 to cap off her collegiate athletic career.
After graduating from Norwich with a degree in physical education in 1979, Jennifer went on to do her graduate work at West Chester University. She worked as a graduate assistant at the school for two years and in 1981 received a master's degree in Health and Physical Education.
In 1981, Jennifer went ot work as a physical education teacher and coach at the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York. Since 1985, she has been the head of the school's Department of Physical Education and Athletics, a position which she still holds today. Jennifer has coached five varsity sports at the school including volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball, and tennis. She now resides in Greenwich, Connecticut.Â
As a teacher and coach, Jennifer has served as a role model to her students as evidenced by her 1991 reception of the school's Catherine Woodbridge Award which recognizes one faculty member each year for their professional achievement an dedication to the school.
