Eric Tallent helped lead the men’s ice hockey to its third national championship as a senior in 2009-10. He scored seven goals and had 13 assists for 20 points en route to earning First Team All-American honors in his final season in the Maroon & Gold.
Tallent served as an assistant captain during his senior season as the team compiled a 26-1-4 record and defeated St. Norbert 2-1 in double-overtime at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. to win the national championship.
Tallent totaled 58 points in his collegiate career in 106 games played and was a two-time ECAC East First Team All-Conference selection. He went on to play five seasons of professional hockey.
“Playing hockey for Norwich was an incredible experience all around,” Tallent said. “Kreitzberg Arena was one of the best arenas and atmospheres in college hockey and it was always packed with fans and students. I was very fortunate to play with some unbelievable players every year, but especially the 2010 team. We had so many new players that year that we didn’t really know what to expect. But, we had great leadership from the coaches and all the upperclassmen and the freshmen class made an impact from game one of the season. Everyone had confidence in each other at all times. Even in games where we were behind late in the game, there was never any concern on the bench. There was always a feeling that weren’t going to lose and we’d find a way to come back.”
After retiring from professional hockey, Tallent spent four years working as a project engineer to design equipment and facilities for the oil and gas industry. During that time, he completed his Master of Mechanical Engineering degree from University of Texas at Arlington. He now works as an Airframe Design Engineer for Bell Flight.
Tallent lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife Brittany and their child, Kian, who was born in December 2020.
