This year’s honorary inductee into the Norwich Hall ofFame served as an assistant coach for the football program from1965-76. Norwich was Hershey’s first job out of college. Heserved on Joe Sabol’s staff for 10 years alongside BarryMynter and then two more years under Mynter when he took over ashead coach in 1975.
The Norwich football team compiled a 55-34-1 underHershey’s tenure on the Cadets’ coaching staff.Hershey, a 1964 Penn State graduate, also was the freshman trackcoach from 1965-69 and later served as an advisor to the varsitytrack team. He also was the assistant athletic director andbusiness manager in 1975 and 1976.
Following Norwich, he had coaching stints at Franklin &Marshall College, Millersville State (Pa.), Harvard and Dartmouthbefore passing away in 1998 after battling cancer for a year.
Hershey was a member of the American Football CoachesAssociation (AFCA) and served on the association’s AssistantCoaches Committee. In 1989, he was elected to the Athletic Hall ofFame at J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, where he was anAll-State quarterback after leading the Red Tornado to a perfect9-0 season and a Central Penn. League title.
Frank is survived by his widow Pamela and his daughter, Mollywho lives in Maryland now and has two children, Franklin (5 years)and Louise (6 months). Pamela is joined today by Frank’ssister Sally Hershey-Cliff.
