John Ayre’s performances on the mat helped to put Norwich University’s wrestling program on the map in the mid-1980’s. A four-year wrestler for the Cadets, Ayre won two New England Conference wrestling titles; The first at the 126-pound weight class as a sophomore, then again at 134 as a senior, advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship each time. Ayre was the first Norwich Cadet wrestler to qualify for the NCAA Championships. He was a member of an improving Cadets squad that was ranked in New England during his junior and senior years.  He earned the Coaches’ Award in 1985 and led the team in falls in 1987. He served as a company commander in the Corps of Cadets as a senior at NU. After graduation, Ayre  served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army as a Platoon Leader and transportation officer in Europe. He was also an Airborne School Honor Graduate. He graduated from Norwich with a degree in business administration and has served as a portfolio manager for First National Investment Advisors, where he has worked for the past 10 years. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Ayre now resides in Johnstown, Penn., with his wife, Angela, daughter, Ashley, and son, Adam.
