Tony Carbone graduated  from and was commissioned at Norwich in 1958, spent 30 years on active duty in the United States Army and worked various jobs at Norwich through the years. Though retired from Norwich, he continues to be one of the athletic department's staunchest supporters. In addition to being a member of the Norwich University Athletic Association, he is also a member of the Touchdown Club, the Blue Line Club, and the Wrestling Booster Club. Carbone has attended every one of the pervious NU Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. That's why he says his selection to the NU Hall of Fame came as such a shock.'
"I'll be in some great company," explains Carbone. "I never thought going back 50 years that I'd be in the Norwich Athletic Hall of Fame."
While athletics are a big part of Carbone's life these days, he only spent one season as a member of the Cadets football team. He is quick to point out, however, that it was a winning team. As a member of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets, Carbone was involved with the Newman Club, the Biology Club, and the Theta Chi fraternity. He achieved the rank of cadet first sergeant.
During his 30 years in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in the U.S., Korea, twice in Vietnam, and three times Germany. Carbone returned to Norwich in 1967, where he served as an assistant professor of military science and Commandment of Cadets until his retirement from the Army in1988. Carbone would spend the next 10 years as Norwich University's Vice President of Institutional  Advancement before retiring in 1998.
Tony has been married to Edda for 49 years, and they are the parents of five children and they have 11 grandchildren. Two of his children, Cynthia and Pamela, graduated from Norwich in 1988, as did a son in law, Jim Fagan, in 1987. Carbone's home remains in Northfield, Vt. where he enjoys cooking and gardening, keeping in excellent physical shape, and attending every Norwich alhletic event possible.
