Roger Dwinell excelled as a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track during his undergraduate career at Norwich. "Roge" was a dean's list student as a popular personality on campus throughout his four years. He graduated with a degree in business administration in 1960 and went on to enjoy a successful career in business.Â
Roger earned four letters in football as a leader on some strong Cadet teams. He co-captained the 1959 squad and was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Roger was also a part of the Cadet basketball and track teams for two seasons apiece and a four-year member of the Varsity Club. He also competed in the Vermont Golden Gloves while at Norwich.Â
A charter member of the Norwich weightlifting team, Roger won many individual awards. He became something of a pioneer in the field of weight training. Following his years at Norwich, Roger educated people by promoting the benefits of weight training and conditioning.Â
After graduation, Roger was drafted by the New York football Giants. He trained with them and played through most of the exhibition season, surviving until the final cut. Roger went to preseason camp with the Houston Oilers the following summer. He was felled by a shoulder injury that ended his hopes of playing professional football.Â
Roger spent six months on active duty as an officer in the Army between football seasons. He later served as an officer in the Army Reserves for many years.Â
Roger later earned a master's degree in public administration from Plattsburgh State University and turned to a career in the insurance industry. He earned many awards from his peers for sales and service. Roger later went into business for himself, establishing The Dwinell Agency in Peru, NY which he operated until his death in 1989. Â
