An outstanding student and three-sport athlete at Norwich, Andrew Stasio personified the term student-athlete during his college career.
Andy earned three letters each in football, basketball, and baseball. He helped the Cadet football team win three Vermont State Championships in three years including a 7-1 season by the 1940 Hall of Fame team. Norwich football teams compiled an 18-3-1 record during his career.
In the spring, Andy handled a terrific pitching staff as the catcher for the baseball team. he was the team's best hitter in the Neuman Club and Pegasus Players. He received the school's scholar-athlete award as a senior in 1942.
Andy's class was called into service for World War II at the end of March of his senior year. He is fond of telling people that he captained an undefeated baseball team at Norwich since the team never got to play a game that spring.
Andy spent six years serving on active duty in Japan and the Philippines during the war. He was awarded the bronze medal for good conduct during the occupation of Japan.
Andy went into the food business upon returning to the states at the end of the war. He became president and owner of MSM Enterprises which operated Shakey's Pizza Parlors and Church's Fried Chicken Restaurants. In 1975, he was named Restaurateur of the Year for the State of Texas.
Andy and his wife Norma have three children; Andrew Jr., Stephen, and Mary Ann.
