Egan was a two-sport standout for Norwich on the track and football teams. He won the New England and ECAC Shot Put Championship as a senior in 1990 and finished seventh at the NCAA Division III National Championship. He served as a co-captain as a senior on the indoor track team and also finished third in New England as a junior.

Overall, he won four regional titles in shot put, three New England Championships and was a seven-time all-New England finisher. He also was the 1989 Vermont State Champion in shot put.

Egan was also a four-year letter winner on the football team, winning the team Defensive Most Valuable Player award as a junior and being named to the ECAC All-New England Second Team as a senior.

In 2004, he was inducted into his high school athletic hall of fame for football and track at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, Massachusetts.

Egan credited former football offensive coordinator Ed Mestieri for convincing him to come to Norwich.

“Coach Mestieri was also the track coach and he convinced me to take a bus and come up for a visit,” Egan said. “I knew Norwich was the place I wanted to go after that visit and it turned out to be a great decision. I have to give a lot of credit to Mike Norman and Steve Ingram who were instrumental in teaching me the techniques for throwing and helped me excel.”

Egan is married to his wife Kristin and they have three children in Daniel, Sarah, and Shannon. He has gone on to a career in law enforcement since graduating from Norwich and currently resides in Foxboro, Mass.
