Stuart made his mark on Norwich athletics as one of the school's most successful skiers. He excelling in both cross-country and jumping events, and captained the Norwich Ski team in his junior and senior years.
As a freshman he swept every Division II jumping meet he entered. He earned 4 gold medals in the EISA Division II meet, including cross-country, jumping, combined and team. He placed 6th in the Division I meet, just missing a trip to the NCAA qualifying meet by 1 point.Â
As a sophomore he won another EISA title, was named MVP of the EISA meet and made the All-East ski team. In his junior year he entered the United States Olympic Trials and placed 7th in the combined jump. As a senior he recorded the 2nd longest jump ever at the Norwich University ski facilities with a leap of 49 1/2 metes, and was named to the US Ski Team's EASA Nordic Team. Clearly Stuart has one of the most enviable athletic records at Norwich.Â
Stuart was a member of the Junior Ring Committee and earned the rank of Captain in the Corps of Cadets.
After graduation Stuart continued to compete against some of the finest skiers in the country. From 1983 through 1986 he competed in a number of Master's tournaments finished 1st three times, 2nd three times, and 3rd once. he also competed in the Olympic tryouts in the 90-meter jump in 1980. In 1981 Stuart coached the Nordic ski team at Northfield High School.
Stuart joined the Fire and Casualty Insurance Company in 1977. He is currently the Treasurer of the Vermont Mutual Insurance Company. He is a member of the IASA (Insurance Accounting and Systems Association) and the AMIA (Association of Mutual Insurance Accountants). He is listed in Who's Who in 1992.Â
Stuart and his wife, Cynthia, currently reside in Montpelier, Vermont, with their two sons, Cameron and Collin.
