Mike Crimmins enjoyed a tremendous athletic career as a part of the successful football and track teams in the late '70s. He was a four-year member of both squads.Â
Mike didn't see a lot of playing time in his first two years of football, but he emerged as a star in his junior year. A quick running back with speed, he was named the team's Most Improved Player after leading the Cadets with 737 rushing yards.Â
Mike was even better in his senior year. He ran for more than 1,000 yards and set what was then a New England record with 17 rushing touchdowns while helping the Cadets post an 8-2 record. Mike finished fourth in the country in scoring and was named the team's Most Valuable Player. His accomplishments earned him a spot on the New England, ECAC, and New York Times' postseason all-star teams.Â
A sprinter for the Cadet track team, Mike competed in th 50, 100, and 220 events as well as the 4 x 110 relay competition. NU was 35-12 during his four seasons, posting winning records every year.Â
After graduating with a degree in physical education, Mike attended training camp with the New England Patriots in the summer of 1980. He didn't make it with the Patriots but returned to Norwich to work as a graduate assistant with the football and track teams.Â
