Salvatore Simeone excelled in football, hockey, and baseball during an impressive athletic career at Norwich. A member of the class of '44, "Chub" was a four-time letterwinner in football and hockey and earned two letters in baseball.Â
Chub played in the backfield for the NU football team and helped the Cadets win 18 of 23 games over his first three years. he helped the 1940 team finish with a 7-1 record and win the Vermont State championship. As a center fielder for the 1941 baseball team, Chub led the Cadets with a .375 average.
Chub enjoyed even greater success during the winter months as a leader of the hockey team. He led the nation in points per game for three straight years and was named captain elect following the 1942-43 campaign. Chub had to wait four years to fill his captaincy when the class of '44 was called into duty for World War II in March of 1943.Â
Chub was sent to the European Theater of Operations in 1944 where he served with the 65th Infantry Division. As an infantry company commander, Chub received the Purple Heart if wounds received in action and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor against the enemy. chub also played football, hockey, and baseball for various army teams in Europe. He was elected captain and coach of the 1946 Ninth Infantry Division hockey team which won the Third Army title. The Third Army All-Star team which he also captained and coached went on to win the European Theater Championship.Â
Chub returned to Norwich for the 1946-47Â school year. He filled his captaincy on the hockey team and again led the team in scoring. he also co-captained the baseball team before graduating in the spring of 1947 with a degree in civil engineering.
Chub went into his family's construction and land development business upon graduating from Norwich. He worked for many years as President and CEO of Simeone Corporation before going into semi-retirement. Today, Chub is a managing partner of Simeone Associates. Chub is a past recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Norwich. His humanitarian efforts have also been recognized by the YMCA, Ursuline Academy and Wrentham High School.Â
Chub and his wife Mary have four daughters; Frances, Ann, Lisa, Michelle.
