The late Albert E. Hicks excelled in baseball and football forthe Cadets. A three-time all-state catcher, he captained thebaseball club in his senior year. In four football seasons, thisversatile athlete was named all-state at three positions -halfback, quarterback, and fullback - and was team captain in 1935.In 1936, Al won the NU Athletic Cup awarded to the most valuablesenior athlete. He was a memeber of the rifle team, Skull andSwords, and the Glee Club and served as an officer in the StudentAthlete Association. Al had 22 years of military service, bothactive and reserve. He saw action at Normandy and in Korea and roseto the rank of major in the 304th combat group of the readyreserve. Al was a manager for General Electric for 40 years and wasactive in his native Lynn area, founding Little League Baseball inLynn and a unique boy scout troop in Lynnfield that saw all membersbecome certified scuba divers.
