ARTICLE III – Nomination Process

Nominations for the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame may be submitted annually and must adhere to the following guidelines:
Eligibility Timeline
- Individuals nominated for Regular, Distinguished Letterwinner, Memorial, or Team Membership must be at least ten (10) years removed from their year of graduation or team participation at Norwich University.
- Honorary Membership candidates are eligible for nomination at any time.
Who May Nominate
- Nominations may be submitted by any Norwich University alumnus, faculty member, staff member, or member of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
- Self-nominations for individual awards are not permitted.
Nomination Requirements
- All nominations must include a completed Nomination Form along with appropriate supporting documentation (e.g., statistical records, athletic honors, career achievements, or other relevant background).
- Incomplete nominations will not be considered until all necessary documentation is received.
- Nominators who successfully submit Nomination Forms that meet the requirements will receive an email confirming receipt of nominations and verifying that the candidates’ information will be reviewed by the committee.
Annual Nomination Window
- Nominations are accepted between October 1 and February 1 each year.
- To be eligible for the current year’s class (e.g., Class of 2026), nominations must be submitted between October 1, 2025, and February 1, 2026.
- Nominations received after February 1 (e.g., February 2, 2026) will be held and automatically added to the pool for future consideration, beginning with the following year’s class (e.g., Class of 2027).
Ongoing Consideration
Nominations not selected in a given year will remain in the nomination database for future consideration unless formally withdrawn by the Selection Committee on an annual basis.
Anniversary Consideration
Nominees are typically selected for induction during milestone anniversaries of their graduation (e.g., 10th, 15th, 20th years). However, the Selection Committee reserves the right to induct up to two (2) individuals annually who are not in a 5- or 10-year milestone class.
ARTICLE IV – Selection Procedure
Annual Review
The Hall of Fame Selection Committee will conduct its review and selection process once annually. The Committee will meet twice per year prior to the induction ceremony to evaluate nominations and determine inductees.
The Director of Athletics or Committee Chair will have the authority to call for a special meeting when deemed necessary.
Evaluation Process
All nominations must be supported by a completed Nomination Form and sufficient documentation. This may include University athletic records, statistics, yearbook excerpts, media coverage, or other verifiable information.
The Committee may request additional materials from the nominator or perform supplemental research to verify achievements or clarify candidate credentials.
Voting Procedure
To be selected for induction, a nominee must receive at least a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote from the Selection Committee.
ARTICLE V – Numbers to Be Selected
The Selection Committee may induct up to ten (10) individuals per year, drawn from the following membership categories:
- Regular Membership
- Honorary Membership
- Distinguished Letterwinner Award
- Memorial Membership
Of those selected, no more than two (2) may be individuals who are not in a 5th or 10th year graduation anniversary class.
The Selection Committee may also select up to two (2) teams per year, provided those teams fall within their 5th or 10th year anniversary of participation.
The Committee reserves the right to adjust these numbers under special circumstances.
ARTICLE VI – Induction Ceremony
Selected individuals and team members will be formally inducted into the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame during the annual Homecoming Weekend in the fall of their selection year.
Inductees are expected to be present at the ceremony. In the case of Memorial inductees, a family member, teammate, or close associate will be invited to attend on their behalf.
Recognitions and Awards
- Each Regular, Honorary, Distinguished Letterwinner, and Memorial inductee will receive a commemorative plaque during the ceremony.
- Members of inducted teams will receive a framed Hall of Fame Certificate of Recognition.
Program Materials and Displays
Photos and biographies of all inductees will be featured in a printed Hall of Fame Induction Banquet Program and added to the digital Hall of Fame display.
Ceremony Remarks
- All individual inductees will be invited to deliver a brief (3 minutes) acceptance speech at the ceremony.
- Memorial inductees will be honored with remarks from a selected representative.
- Each inducted team will designate one representative to offer remarks on behalf of the team.
ARTICLE VII – Selection Committee
The Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be composed of the following members:
- Up to seven (7) members who are current inductees in the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame. These members will serve a term of three (3) years, and may be renewed for a second term by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Committee. Members may serve no more than two (2) consecutive terms.
- The Director of Athletics, who shall serve as a voting member of the Committee. This role is not subject to term limits.
- The Director of Athletic Communications (or designee), who shall serve as a voting member. This role is not subject to term limits.
- One (1) faculty member, appointed to a three (3) year term, renewable for an additional term by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Committee.
- Up to two (2) advisory members, who may attend and participate in meetings and discussions, provide insight and information on nominees, but do not hold voting privileges.
Chair of the Selection Committee
The Chair shall be elected from among the seven (7) regular members of the committee by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Selection Committee.
The Chair shall serve a three (3) year term and may serve a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms.
Nominations for Committee Membership
Nominations for service on the Selection Committee may be submitted by any current Selection Committee member or any Hall of Fame inductee.
All nominations must be approved by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Selection Committee.
ARTICLE VIII – Amendments to the Bylaws
Amendments to the Hall of Fame Bylaws may be made with an affirmative vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the Selection Committee.
Any approved amendments must be communicated to the full committee and relevant stakeholders.
No amendments shall take effect until the selection cycle following the year in which the changes are approved.
A selection year is defined as the period beginning immediately after the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Homecoming and continuing through the following year’s induction.
ARTICLE IX – Quorum
For the Selection Committee to conduct official business or take action on nominations and inductions:
- A quorum of at least six (6) members must be present.
- Participation may be in person or via approved remote methods, such as conference call or video conferencing.
