Richard Bullens was a three-sport letter winner in football, baseball, and hockey. He left Norwich in February of his senior year to take care of unforeseen circumstances on the home front.
Bullens served as an officer in the U.S Army and was a veteran of World War ll. He was awarded a Purple Heart, the British Military Cross, the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, two Battle Stars, and a Presidential Unit Citation. Bullens spent his business career as president and account executive with a prominent New England  food brokerage firm. He also served as president of the Grocery Manufacturer's Representatives of New England.  Bullens was always a great supporter of NU Athletics.As a cadet, he helped organize the 1938-39 Norwich Hockey team and helped erect Norwich outdoor hockey rink of Sabine field. Bullens also served as the first president of the Norwich Boston Alumni Club and served many yeas on the alumni board of directors. In 1995, the Norwich Association presented him wih the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his service to the university .
  Richard was married to Mary Jane Dickson of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He passed away in April of 2001. Richard is represented tonight by his son, Rick Bullens, Norwich class of 1986, Rick's wife, Diane, and Richard's two kids daughters, Cindy and Debbie Bullens, along with other family members and friends.
