Philip Oxnam played four years of soccer, was a two-year swimmer, was a member of the fencing team for one year, and as captain of the school’s first lacrosse team was instrumental in starting the lacrosse program at Norwich University. On the soccer field, Oxnam served as the captain of the freshman team, was the varsity captain and was named team MVP as a senior. He was twice an All-State selection and was also named to the All-New England team. His teams won a North Atlantic championship as a sophomore and tied for the New England title his senior year. The 1966 team that he co-captained was inducted into the NU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. In the pool, he competed in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle events, and earned All-State honors by finishing among the top three swimmers in the state in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Oxnam has been involved in a variety of sports throughout his life, including soccer, fencing, lacrosse, swimming, archery, volleyball, skiing, sailing and figure skating as both a player and as a coach. He won an Eastern and a National Clout Championship as a teenage archer. He has been involved with figure skating at the adult level, competing in both men’s and pairs competitions at the national level. He has also developed figure skating programs for World and Olympic skaters. As a Distinguished Military Graduate from Norwich, he was the University’s first Rhodes Scholar Candidate. Oxnam rose to 1st Lieutenant in the Army, where his last position was as an Aide-de-Camp in Thailand.He grauated from American Academy of Dramatic Arts with the equivalent of three doctorates, in theatre, film, and television studies, and has worked as an actor, director and casting director on Broadway, and in films, TV and radio, while serving as an acting coach to several professional athletes and models.            Oxnam served as a director of theatre arts at Lamoille Union High School for 10 years before recently moving to Colorado to purse development of a new line of alpine skis and to develop “TRIXonSTIX,” a new skiing sport that he has developed with his wife JoAnne Buck, which combines aspects of freestyle skiing and skating on shortened skis. The duo won the first pairs world championship this year.
