Camire starred for four years on the mat for the Norwich University wrestling program. He was the Northern New England champion as a senior in 1988-89 at the 158-pound weight class, while recording a 30-4 record during his final season with the Maroon & Gold.
Camire was a two-year co-captain and compiled an 83-23 career record for a .783 winning percentage. He also earned All-New England honors three straight season from 1987-1989.
“The most rewarding part of being inducted has me reflecting on some of the best and simplest times in my life,” Camire said. “I love watching my kids compete. I don’t know if it would have meant so much if not for time for Norwich.”
“Norwich was a great school for me to go to because it develops the complete person,” Camire said. “It gave me a leg up in my life with some of the memories I had going through rookdom. I couldn’t imagine not starting with that foundation.”
Following Norwich, Camire went back to his home high school and has taught Mathematics calculus and statistics for the 25 years since. He is the department chair of the program that is linked with the Univ. of Southern Maine.
Camire has been married to his wife, Cherylan for 23 years and they have three children; Ryan, Summer and Brooke. He also coaches the wrestling team at Sanford High School that has won multiple Maine State Championships during his time.
