Samuel M. Oassalacqua competed in basketball and football for the Cadets after transferring from Hartwick College. He was a two-year basketball co-captain and a strong rebounder for the 19-2 team of 1953-54. On the gridiron, Sam excelled as a defensive lineman and was named All-State and honorable mention All-New England twice each as well as team MVP in 1952. Among the fiercest tacklers in NU history, Sam lent his expertise to young Cadets, helping coach the freshman team in 1953. Sam was a Cadet lieutenant and a member of the Varsity Club, the Newman Club, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He is extremely active in community affairs, having served in town, school, and athletic roles. He is a member of the Geneva City Planning Board and the Geneva Board of Education while also serving as President of the Wayne Finger Lakes Board of Cooperative Education. In addition, Sam has been Director and Coach of Geneva Junior League Football and President of the Geneva Babe Ruth League. He is also active in his church and is a member of Sons of Italy. His service has been rewarded with a listing in Community Leaders of America, and he has received the following awards: Sportsman of the Year (Geneva, 1967), Man of the Year (Geneva, 1976), Teacher Association Lay teacher Award (Geneva, 1976), and Police Benevolent Association Dick Post Memorial Award for Communicty Service (1981). He resides with his wife, Marie Elena, and their children in Geneva, NY.
