Gilbert is a posthumous selection to the Hall of Fame after he passed away this past June. The four-year standout swimmer shattered nearly every school record at the time, ending his career in 1969 with 12 school records and six pool records. He still held six individual school records in 1975 and was a member of two more school relay records that were eventually broken in the early 1980s. As a senior, he won 13 of 16 races and finished with a 29-3 record vs. intercollegiate competition. Gilbert earned All-New England honors three straight years from 1967-69.
