Dewey was a four-year member of the football team, earning Freedom Football Conference First Team honors as a senior in 2002. He also was named to the FFC Second Team as a junior in 2001. He earned FFC Defensive Player of the Week honors and New England Player of the Week honors, as well as was an ECAC Northeast All-Star selection.

Dewey served as a co-captain as a senior and was the NU Defensive MVP. He also was a National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete.

“It’s humbling and a good feeling to have the honor of being selected into the NU Athletic Hall of Fame,” Dewey said. It was a lot of effort and hard work but some of my favorite members from Norwich were the double and triple practice sessions in August before school started. I played with a lot of amazing guys over the years and I really cherished traveling to road games and hanging out with everyone.”

After graduating, Dewey served as assistant football coach on Mike Yesalonia’s coaching staff for one year, before continuing on to coach two more years at Springfield College. He then went into the army in 2006, serving four years of active duty with the 101st Airborne Infantry with a deployment to Afghanistan.

“I had the unique opportunity to play for Coach Yesalonia and then work as an assistant coach under him,” Dewey said. “It was a great experience playing for him. He was a demanding coach that knew what he wanted. He put a lot of time and effort into things and he expected the same out of his players and coaches to get the results he wanted. They were both great experiences that helped shape me into the man I am today.

Upon returning home, he started a family in New Canaan, Conn. and went into the national guard. He now serves as a police officer in New Canaan.

Dewey has been married to his wife Joanna for 12 years. They have a son and a daughter named Cole and Kylie.
