Jim Luscinski enjoyed an outstanding athletic career at Norwich. A versatile athlete, he collected eight letters in three different sports and later enjoyed a career as a placekicker for the New York Jets of the National Football League.Â
Jim earned four letters in football, doubling as a placekicker and an offensive lineman for some successful Norwich squads in the late seventies. At 6'5", 250 pounds, Jim was a bookend tackle on the offensive line. He Was NU's top-rated lineman as a senior, helping to open holes for running backs like Mike Crimmins and Milt Williams, among others.Â
Jim took over as the team's placekicker in his sophomore year and immediately began to show his pro potential. He converted a school record eight PATs in a win over Plattsburgh State that fall. Jim was recognized as one of the best kickers in the country by his junior year. He earned a place on the New England and ECAC All-Star Teams in each of his final two seasons. Â
Jim earned three letters playing baseball in the spring of his first three years at Norwich. He turned to track his senior year and immediately won All-New England recognition in the shot put event. A member of the Corps of Cadets, Jim was also active in the weightlifting club during his undergraduate years.Â
After graduating with a degree in biology, Jim began his pursuit of a career in the National Football League. He had tryouts with both the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles in 1980. The Jets signed Jim to be their placekicker in 1981 and he remained with the team until 1984 when he suffered a broken neck which forced him to retire from football.Â
After retiring, Jim ran a health club for 11 years before eventually selling it in 1995.Â
