Allen was a two-sport standout in skiing and lacrosse during his time at Norwich. He was a three-year captain of the ski team and made the All-East Ski Team as a senior in 1983.
Allen qualified for the Division I Ski Championships as a sophomore in 1981. He was also named to the United States Military World Skiing Championship Team after graduation.
“I’m very honored and humbled to be chosen to join this prestigious athletic fraternity,” Allen said. “The life-long friends that we meet throughout the years are really what makes Norwich special. It’s been awesome to be able to keep up those contacts and relationships even after graduating 25 years ago.”
Allen served as a captain his senior year and he gave credit to his coaches and some of the Norwich support staff for helping him throughout his Norwich career.
“I appreciated both of my coaches, Bruce Jennings and Wally Baines for everything they taught me,” Allen said. “I also have to give kudos to the athletic trainers for keeping us together practice after practice and game after game.”
After graduating, Allen went to work with father at Allen Agency. He then went into sales in the pharmaceutical industry as a sales representative. He also worked at Cellular One as a major account manager. From November 2011 to August 2013, he was the Defense Coordinating Officer for FEMA in New England and also served as the Emergency Prepared Liaison Officer for the State of Vermont. He worked through Hurricane Irene and was deployed to numerous natural disasters during that time frame.
He resides in Burlington and has a son, Connor, who attends the University of New Hampshire and daughter, Casey, who will be attending Kimball Union Academy this fall.
