A four-year member and two-year letter winner on the NU footballsquad that is being inducted posthumously after passing away in2005 after a battle with cancer. Tourigny was better known by histeammates with the nickname “Moose.” He was a linemanthat served as a team captain during the 1952 season, helping leadthe Cadets to a 5-4 season, including a 26-14 victory overMiddlebury on Nov. 1. He was also a member of the 1951 squad thatwas the first team inducted into the Norwich Athletic Hall of Famein 1991 after going 6-2, which was the best record in a decade.

Tourigny also ran the old Taylor Arena ice rink for his finalthree years at Norwich in order to be able to pay for hisschooling. He was also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilonfraternity.

“Moose was a real Norwich supporter,” said classmateChuck Auer. “He was a super individual that would alwaysspeak fondly of his time at Norwich and try and actively recruitothers to attend the school after he graduated. It would mean a lotto him to be here for this occasion.”

Upon graduating from Norwich in 1953 with a bachelor’sdegree in Economics, ‘Moose’ served his country for 21years in the US Army Signal Corps. He served overseas tours of dutyin Zaire, the African Congo, Germany and Japan. During his service,he earned the Bronze Star Medal, the Joint Services CommendationMedal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

His widow Shirley lives in Vero Beach, Fla.
