Richard Wilkins was a three-year letterwinner in track and four-year member of the hockey team. He co-captained the hockey squad his junior year and captained again his senior year. Richard joins former hockey teammates Sterling Melendy '46 Ben Simeone '52 and Bobby Horne '53 in the Hll of Fame. A great leader, Richard was a contributing factor to the rebirth of Norwich hockey in the early '50's. The program began to takeoff his sophomore year when, coached by John Santosuosso, the team moved into Taylor Arena and established itself as a major sport at Norwich. On campus, Wilkins was the president of the Varsity Club his senior year and a member of the sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.Richard received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1951 and was named to the Dean's List numerous times. After he graduated, Richard served as a First Lieutenant in the Army for two years (1951-53). Richard worked as a design engineer for 35 years, including 28 years as the supervisor of mechanical systems at General submarines. Richard is also a member of the General Dynamics, where he received several patents for his work with submarines. Richard is also a member of the Central Connecticut Radio Control Club. Originally from  Newton, Massachusetts, Richard resides in Lyme, Connecticut, with his wife Marilyn. They have a daughter Susan, and son, Kenneth.
