Pasco E. "Pat" Del Vecchio is among the all-time Cadet greats in football and baseball, having performed in each sport for four years and becoming team captain for both squads. In addition, he was a three-time All-State performer in football and baseball. As an outstanding defensive back, Pat was a strong pass and rush defender and still holds the NU record for tackles in a game - 24 - against Darmouth in 1931.
On the diamond, Pat led the team in hitting in his freshman and senior seasons and holds the Cadet career record for hitting, with a .437 batting average. In one season of professional football, Pat played for the 12-0 Providence Steam Rollers before serving his alma mater as an assistant football and baseball coach from 1934 to 1936 and as a JV basketball coach in the 1935-36 season.Â
Pat has had a lifelong involvement with athletics in Vermont. From 1937 to 1944, he coached football, basketball, and baseball at Windsor High School. His women's teams were undefeated against Vermont competition for five years. Pat was also a well known sports official in Vermont, working high school and college games in football, basketball, and baseball.Â
Pat worked in Montpelier, first with the National Youth Administration and later with the State Department of Employment Security as interviewer, counselor, and state-wide head of Industrial Services and testing. He became the District Manager of the Barre, White River Junction, and Montpelier offices in 1966 and retired in 1974.Â
