A member of the 1999-2000 NCAA national champion men's ice hockey team, Marc Bellemare graduated as Norwich's all-time scoring and assist leader with 216 points and 122 assists.
The 1999 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) East Player of the Year, Bellemare was twice named a first-team American Hockey Coaches Association All-American (1999 and 2000).
The Cornwall, Ontario native was a three-time ECAC East First Team selection (1998, 1999 and 2000) and was also named to the New England Hockey Writers' all-star team in 1999 and 2000.
In 1999, Bellemare finished runner-up for the Division II-III United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) Player of the Year, beat by one point by teammate Keith Aucoin. Aucoin would later go on to break Bellemare's NU career scoring and assist records.
After his collegiate career Bellemare played professionally for the Bears of Villard de Lans in the French National Division I league. He led his team to a divisional championship and was named the league's MVP.
Following his stint as a professional, Bellemare returned to Canada where he attended an Ottawa teacher's college. He now works as a teacher in Ottawa.
Reflecting on winning the national championship, Bellemare recalls, "It was gratifying. I got what I wanted and what we had strived to achieve for four years. It was meant to be; closure. We had an amazing time and it ended the way it should have ended."
Of Coach McShane, "He was a great coach, well-prepared and organized. He knew how to get the most out of his players. We really admired him and knew if we listened to him we would have a championship team."
Bellemare now resides in Embrun, Ontario with his wife, Josie, and a daughter Brooke. The couple is expecting their second child this fall.
Bellemare still plays hockey several times a week, along with golfing and running. He completed a marathon in May of this year.
