Mac McAllister is this year’s honorary inductee into the Norwich Hall of Fame after serving the University for nearly 40 years. Mac and his son Steve have combined to film the NU football team’s home games for the last 42 years. Mac has also been a large part of the high school athletic scene in Vermont, filming various sporting events across the state.

“It’s such an unbelievable honor and it’s hard to find the words to express my sincerity on being inducted,” McAllister said. “I started this journey in 1966 and it’s been a fantastic ride along the way. I’ve been fortunate to be associated with some great coaches and athletic directors.”

McAllister started his filming business because local coaches who were not getting film back before the middle of the week. Middlebury College contacted him about working with them and he decided to give up teaching completely and try and run the filming as a business.

Norwich was one of five schools in the fall of 1972 that worked with McAllister along with Middlebury, UVM, South Burlington and Essex. By the end of 1970’s and early 80’s over 80 schools were using his service.

Today, Norwich and Essex are the remaining schools and Mac calls himself 99 percent retired with his son Steve taking over a majority of the work. Mac, his wife and Steve live in Waterbury in a house built by Mac’s great grandfather in the 1860s. They work out of an office in the back of the house.
