Gerald "Buck" Bovee was an outstanding two-sport athlete who excelled in basketball and baseball at Norwich. He earned three varsity letters in each sport.

Buck was a terrific shooting guard for the basketball team. He played basketball for three years and served as the team captain in his senior year. Buck earned Vermont All-State honors that season after leading the Cadets in scoring.

Buck displayed his athletic ability in the spring as a member of the baseball team. He did a little bit of everything on the baseball diamond, playing virtually ever position during his four seasons. Buck's accomplishment earned him Vermont All-State recognition following his senior season.

With all of his success in basketball and baseball, it came as no surprise that Buck received the Norwich Senior Athlete Award for the Class of '51.

Buck graduated with a bachelor's degree in history, and went on to perform two years of active duty with the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. He served as the Re-Con platoon leader and was a parachutist with 13 jumps to his credit. Never one to be found far from athletic competition, Buck was also active as the coach of his battalion's baseball and basketball teams.

Buck entered the lumber and construction business when he finished his tour of duty. He spent many years as a successful manager of two lumber yards and became a leader in the home building business.

Buck retired in 1992. He and his wife,, Jean, live in Delanson, N.Y. They have two daughters; Kathy and Judy, and two sons; David and Darrell.
