Don Fillion has been a fixture in sports journalism in Vermont during the past 40 years. Don was born in Boston and grew up in Lebanon, N.H. He was recruited by Norwich University to play football in 1952 and played one season before sustaining an injury. While in New Hampshire in 1960, Don got a job as a reporter for the Valley News, where he worked until 1965. In fall of 1965. During his time ata the Free Press, Don served sd the Sports Editor for over 12 years (1967-1979). When Don began at the Free Press, he was the only full time sports writer, sharing duties with one part time person while working seven days a week, despite having no Sunday publication. Don covered Norwich frequently and even traveled with teams, covering football, hockey and baseball.
Don resides in Montgomery, Vermont with Klara, his wife of 45 years . Don currently writes part time for the St.Albans Messenger and has three sons, Mark, Brain and Steven and two daughters, Barbara and Virginia .
