James M. Segar was a three-sport athlete at Norwich, competing in football, hockey, and lacrosse. As a defensive back, Jim had his best season as a senior, picking off five interceptions in 1975. He was also an aggressive midfielder for the NU laxmen but is best remembered for his role on the Cadet hockey team, where for three years he was part of the most renowned line in NU history, joining with Hall of Famer Cam McGregor (209 points) and Muike Stevenson (122) to form a potent scoring unit to which he contributed 89 points. High-scoring defenseman and fellow inductee Lou DiMasi *85 points) was also on those teams. Jim finished with eight varsity letters. 
Jim's campus activities included membership on the Ring and Honor committees, participation in Big Brother/Big Sister, and intramural officiating. He is presently the class agent for the class of '76. Jim served his alma mater as defensive backfield coach and assistant hockey coach/JV coach while earning his master's degree in Athletic Administration (1977). He is currently a physical education teacher and is coaching soccer, hockey, and track at U-32 High School in Montpelier, where he has also coached golf and baseball and served as Athletic Director from 1979-1984. Jim's team win the Vermont State Hockey Championship in 1981, and he was selected Division II Rotary Coach of the Year for hockey in 1985 and 1986. He is a member of the Montpelier Jaycees and the Vermont Athletic Directors' Association. Jim is director of the Mid-State Hockey School in Barre, VT and is involved in various youth activities through the Jaycees. He has also served as an auxiliary office for the Vermont State Police (Marine Division), specializing in Water Safety.
Jim lives in Montpelier with his wife, Kathleen, and their daughter, Meghan.
