Men's Tennis: Redmond earns first career Empire 8 Player of the Week honor

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After leading Norwich University men's tennis to a perfect 2-0 week to open the 2026 season, sophomore Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) has been named the Empire 8 Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The accolade marks the first Player of the Week honor of Redmond's career.  He previously earned a pair of Empire 8 Doubles Team of the Week selections during his freshman campaign alongside Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and Gabe Wettig.

Redmond was dominant from the top of the lineup in Norwich's season-opening victories over Vermont State University Lyndon and Houghton University, finishing the week a perfect 4-0 across singles and doubles competition.

At No. 1 singles, Redmond opened the season with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory in Norwich's 7-0 sweep of VTSU Lyndon on Wednesday afternoon inside Shapiro Fieldhouse.  He followed with another strong performance on Saturday, grinding out a straight-set 6-4, 7-5 win over Houghton's Rune Camps in a competitive top-flight matchup to help secure the Cadets' 6-1 team triumph.

Redmond also played a key role in doubles, teaming with Bayly-Henshaw for a pair of victories at No. 1.  The duo rolled to a 6-0 win over VTSU Lyndon before returning with a 6-2 decision against Houghton, helping Norwich claim the doubles point in both matches.

His undefeated week helped the Cadets open the year with back-to-back victories for the second straight season, as Norwich improved to 2-0 to begin the 2026 campaign.

Redmond's success at the top of the lineup also continued a strong recent run for Norwich men's tennis in Empire 8 weekly recognition, after the Cadets earned seven weekly honors across Player of the Week and Doubles Team of the Week selections last season, in their first year as a member of the Empire 8.

Norwich will close its three-match homestand on Wednesday, Mar. 18, hosting intrastate rival Vermont State University Johnson at 3:00 p.m. inside Shapiro Fieldhouse.  The Cadets will then hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, Mar. 21, traveling to face Thomas College in a non-conference matchup.
