Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Freshman Mike Lavery (Penacook, N.H.) and junior Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) both scored four times and dished out three assists to lead the Norwich University men's lacrosse team to its seventh-straight win, a 15-1 defeat of Daniel Webster College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Howard Field on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Cadets improve to 7-3 overall and 7-0 in GNAC play, while the loss drops the visiting Eagles to 1-10 overall and 0-8 in league play.
In addition to the eight combined goals from Lavery and Thomas, the Cadets also received two goals each from Ryan McCarthy (Medford, Mass.) and Conor Murphy (Westwood, Mass.). Victor Bill (Nazareth, Pa.) netted a goal and dished out two assists, while Zachary MacMillan (Brunswick, Maine) and Cullen Boyle (Wilbraham, Mass.) both netted single goals. Joe DiTommaso (Hubbard, Ohio) dished out three assists.
Anthony Cotoni (Groton, Mass.) netted Daniel Webster's lone goal of the game with 7:42 to play in the third quarter.
Norwich tallied three early goals before Boyle netted his first goal of the season to give the Cadets the 4-0 edge with 5:08 to play in the first quarter. Scoring ceased until the second quarter where Norwich tallied six unanswered goals to take a 10-0 lead into halftime.
Thomas, Bill and Lavery netted third quarter goals before Daniel Webster was able to get on the board. The Cadets added one more in the final minutes of the third quarter and a final goal with 9:40 left to play in the fourth to remain undefeated in league play.
Norwich goaltender Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) recorded one save in the first quarter of action before giving way to Ryan Fecteau (Danvers, Mass.) who totaled three saves in two quarters of work. Jacob Calloway (Oviedo, Fla.) posted two saves in the fourth quarter for the Cadets. Curtis Larade (Merrimack, N.H.) totaled 14 saves in the complete-game effort for the Eagles.
Nate Fortezzo (Branford, Conn.) won 6-of-6 face-off attempts for Norwich, who also saw a 6-of-7 performance by Andrew Bracy (Carthage, N.Y.). Bracy and Andrew Dustin (Canterbury, N.H.), along with Daniel Webster's Larade, all posted a game-high six ground balls on the afternoon.
The Cadets return to action on Friday when they host Rivier University in a 4:00 p.m. GNAC matchup. The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday against Emmanuel for their final game of the season.
