ITHACA, N.Y. – A pair of fourth-place finishes guided Norwich University to a 73-point total at the Ithaca Invitational Nov. 4-5.
Junior 165-pounder Abe Bray (Gold Bar, Wash.) reached the championship semifinals before falling 8-2 to eventual runner-up and top-seeded Nick Sanko of Ithaca. Bray came back in the wrestlebacks to battle for the consolation championship where a riding time point for Centenary College's Nick Bach sent him to a 2-1 defeat.
Sophomore heavyweight Alex Lawrence (Ledyard, Conn.) battled back through the wrestlebacks after a quarterfinal round loss on the championship side. He made it into the consolation final where he was toppled by SUNY-Oswego's Kevin Sheridan by fall.
Norwich's final point total put them in eighth place among a strong field. Centenary College of New Jersey snuck past the host Bombers for the team title.
