SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Norwich Men's Wrestling team competed in their final event, before Northeast Regionals, Sunday afternoon at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Invitational. At the invite, two Cadets finished in the top five of their respective weight classes. 

The best finish of the day went to freshman Robby Lyons (Milford, Mass.) who earned first place in the 125-pound bracket. Lyons dominated in the Round of 16 by notching a tech fall, then secured a pin at 1:51 in the Quarterfinals. In the Semifinals, he emerged victorious with a 13-10 decision over Lucas Johnson of Williams, before taking a 10-5 decision in the championship over top-seeded Mason Franklin from JWU. 

Also earning a podium finish was fellow 125-pounder Ben Fournier (Hebron, Conn.) who placed fifth. In the Round of 16, Fornier pinned his opponent in 17 seconds. After being defeated in the Quarterfinals, he took a 16-15 decision to start his consolation matches, before taking a 19-9 major decision and finishing with a 9-3 decision. 

Next, Norwich will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, which Wesleyan University will host the weekend of March 1-2.
