John Hartupee is in his second season as the head coach of theNorwich University wrestling program. Hartupee comes toNorwich after spending 13 seasons as the head coach of Duquesnefrom 1996 to 2010, where he held a 114-111-4 career recordwith the Dukes.
Prior to his experience as a head coach, Hartupee served as anassistant coach at an impressive list of Division-I programs,including Clemson (’81-’83), University of Michigan(’83-’85), University of Pittsburgh(’85-’88), and three years at Duquesne(’93-’96) prior to his promotion.
Hartupee enjoyed celebrated careers as a highschool, collegiate and amateur wrestler. He was a three-timeMichigan high school champion, as well as a two-time high schoolAll-American. Hartupee competed at the highest caliber tobecome a Junior Olympics National Champion and a Junior WorldNational Champion.
Hartupee went on to attend Central Michigan where he was atwo-time Mid-American Conference champion, an NCAA runner-up and anAll-American as a 118-pounder.
His career continued to blossom after college, as he was titleda Canadian Senior National Champion, a two-time AAU Senior NationalChampion, and was a member of the US National Team, garnering aspot as the first alternate for the 1980 United States OlympicTeam. Most recently, amidst his coaching career, Hartupee collectedthe 1993 Masters World Champion title.
