ONEONTA, N.Y. – Norwich University highlighted the
SUNY-Oneonta Red Dragon Invitational Nov. 19 by putting four into
the championship quarterfinals.
Coach John Hartupee's squad had freshman 125-pounder Alex
Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.), freshman 197-pounder Aaron Hunt
(Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore heavyweights Anthony Joyce
(Lincoln, R.I.) and Alex Lawrence (Ledyard, Conn.) pick up
early-round wins in the winner's bracket. Of that group,
Joyce battled back after a tough 6-4 loss to third-seeded Joe
Giaramita of SUNY-Cortland to take sixth. Lawrence made it into the
consolation quarterfinals, while Hunt and Stewart were knocked out
one match shy of the wrestlebacks' final eight.
The Maroon and Gold compiled 29 team points, tying WPI for
ninth. Hartupee's squad breaks from competition this week for
the Thanksgiving holiday but returns to early-season tournament
action when they compete in the Rochester Institute of
Technology's meet Saturday, Dec. 3.
