WINTHROP, Mass. – Norwich University women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Sophie Olivo (Sanford, Maine) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week following a standout opening week to her collegiate career.

Olivo made an immediate impact between the wood works for the Cadets, helping Norwich open the 2026 season with a pair of 2-0 victories while recording back-to-back shutouts in her first two collegiate appearances.

The freshman played all 180 minutes across Norwich's opening two contests, beginning her collegiate career on Sept. 1 against Vermont State Johnson. In her collegiate debut, Olivo made two saves to earn her first career victory and clean sheet as the Cadets opened the season with a 2-0 win.

Olivo followed that performance up with an eight-save shutout in Sunday's 2-0 road victory at inter-state rivals Vermont State Castleton. Facing sustained pressure in the attacking third from the Spartans throughout the second half, Olivo turned aside all eight shots she faced, with seven of her saves coming after halftime in a high intensity second half to preserve the clean sheet and secure Norwich's second consecutive victory.

Olivo's eight-save performance against Castleton proved particularly important as Norwich protected its two-goal advantage they generated during the second half. The freshman goalkeeper repeatedly made numerous big saves as Norwich's defense weathered the sustained attacking pressure to close out the victory for a second straight year against Castleton.

With the honor, Olivo becomes the latest Cadet to earn weekly recognition from the GNAC and starts her collegiate career with a perfect record between the posts.

Through two games, Olivo begins her young career perfect with 10 saves and two wins.
