BOSTON, Mass.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team returned to Roberto Clemente Field Saturday afternoon for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinal matchup with top-seeded, reigning conference champion Emmanuel, where the Cadets' season came to an end.
Off the opening kickoff, the Saints tested
Michaela Dubey (Belchertown, Mass.) early and often. After Dubey made several stops, it was Norwich's turn to test Emmanuel keeper Teigan Robbie with shots by
Lily Briggs (Fair Haven, Vt.) and
Blythe McQuade (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), which were turned aside. Minutes later, the Saints struck first directly from a corner kick. Soon after,
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) sank the equalizer. Emmanuel kept the pressure on Dubey, but the score remained deadlocked at the half.
Out of the break, the Saints struck twice in three minutes to jump ahead by two goals. Dubey kept making stops, allowing Norwich to attempt a comeback, but they were kept off the scoreboard, preserving a win for the Saints. Dubey finished the day with eleven saves.
Norwich's season comes to an end after a 7-7-4 campaign. This marks the first time since 2010-11 that they have qualified for the GNAC tournament in back-to-back seasons.
